Sunday Service : Lamination
This Sunday Service we wanted to break down our number one requested service (and it’s kind of our signature service ): BROW LAMINATION. It just might be the most versatile brow service out there that offers low maintenance, high performing and FLUFFY results. It is a semi permanent solution that lifts and realigns your natural hair flow by softening the hair structure, holding it in place. Not only is it a high performing alternative to gel, but it essentially mercerizes each hair. As it straightens every hair to its maximum length and volume, it creates a more smooth and full brow. We believe in brows that you can live in. Low maintenance, lamination lasts up to 8 weeks for the kind of effortless “I woke up like this” option without committing to an invasive service. Let’s break down what a lamination session will look like. We pencil in 40 - 60 minutes, depending on any additional services. Interested in a tint (and/or) tidy? We got you.
We do recommend all new clients beginning with a Brow Design to craft your bespoke shape and a patch test. Best tinting results occur a week following your lamination session to avoid any breakage.
The lamination service begins with the perming solution that breaks down the protein in the hair to soften the flow. And yes, it smells just like it sounds. This sits on the brows for 15 minutes. Our lamination solution is like a good brisket - low and slow. It is followed by the “lamination” solution, where we meticulously comb out each hair to hold in its ideal placement for an additional 15 minutes. Afterwards we are able to tint and tidy with our signature mapping.
Scout Signature mapping : By using “The Golden Ratio” for key points along your facial structure, we create a mapped grid for your ideal balanced brow, bespoke for you. Our bone structure is asymmetrical so balanced is the key word. It visually reveals any areas that need new growth and what background noise doesn’t serve you.
By applying a deep conditioning setting serum, the lamination service is complete. This is necessary as we have chemically altered the hair, leaving it dry. After every service there is a complimentary brow balm to take home for your moisturizing needs.
Fresh out of the studio your brows will look glossy and sleek. This is short lived from our final setting serum. After time they will soften up, but if you love that glossy look, apply our brow balm.
Every person has unique circumstances, lifestyles and biology. Anticipate that results vary from person to person, but typically ranges from 6-8 weeks.
Fluffy AF (and fun) results. You would never known you had THAT much hair. Your reflection will be getting all the double takes, so prepare for us to be in a long term relationship.
So you’re wondering, is lamination good for me?
Lamination is a great service for most folks and it might just surprise who it will work for. If you are fighting unruly hair and desire to redirect your hair flow (a common concern for those with downward growth) this is going to give you a smooth hair flow. However, extremely coarse, dry brows can be difficult to laminate and may kink from the service. If you’re struggling with density, lamination maximizes on EVERY hair, so those with thin or sparse brows can get that brushed up, fuller look by filling any gaps. Not only will it serve your aesthetic goals, but it’s great if you’re looking to simplify your brow routine (think less product and a longer lasting result - especially with a brow tint).
What we love especially about lamination is that it is a NON INVASIVE service. What does that mean? Unlike permanent make up services like microblading or powder brow, this is a superficial service. If you have enough hair to work with (as this is an essential part of the service) it can give you those fluffy results you’ve been dreaming of without having to commit to a tattoo. Lamination can be a complementary service for those WITH permanent make up, what we like to call this “The Fluffy Combo”. It adds a natural dimension to microblading or powder brows. Recent PMU requires the skin to have healed for 6 weeks prior to any lamination. If you’re in the position where you’re waiting for old PMU to fade, it can be a gentle cover up option, without feeling obligated to maintain your tattoo or go larger and darker for a correction.
Let’s talk contraindications
(our way of saying, things to consider)
While we think lamination is the bees knees (or something else awesome) there are a few things to think about before booking. With any allergies or sensitive skin, we recommend a patch test prior to the service. Completion during your Brow Design would be a great time to test for any sensitivities. Think psoriasis, excema, cystic acne, recent burn or skin treatments like laser or chemical peels, etc. We unfortunately cannot perform it on anyone pregnant or nursing. We would love to show you our Signature Scout styling tips while you care for your little one. We have some amazing products that mimics lamination.
Lamination cannot be combined with Henna or permanent hair dye products as it will impact the integrity of your hair. Yes, even “Just for Men”. We’ve come across this in the studio and it can have a big impact on the health of your brows so PLEASE PAY ATTENTION. And yes, I will know as your brows will lift during the service, creating “tiger stripes” with your new growth and you most likely will experience breakage. Please give your brows 10-12 weeks to cycle out before the lamination process. But if you need a tint, don’t fret - we have other options moving forward. We can use our natural vegetable based dye or hybrid tint (similar results to henna, but ammonia free). For best results, we recommend applying the tint one week following your lamination to avoid any breakage.
The secret to longevity? Aftercare
Being prepared goes a long way. First of all, if you have sensitive skin, you will have completed patch test complete prior to your appointment. Arriving with freshly washed hair and clean brows will make the after care process more effective for the longevity you want. Aftercare is king for the best results, so follow by:
Keeping your brows dry for 48 hours
Switch your cotton pillow case for silk to avoid any breakage (plus your skin and hair will thank me)
Use our complementary after care balm 1-2 times a day. This silky balm is made using ultra nourishing, all natural, vegan and cruelty free ingredients (coconut, shea butter, olive oil, vitamin E, lavender, frankincense and tea tree oil)
Consider creating a brow mask (we recommend olaplex 3) by conditioning your brows once a week in the shower.
Getting in touch with your brow cycle so you aren’t surprised when new growth comes in and the laminated hair softens up. As time goes on, it will look more natural and textured.
Honoring your brow cycle to maintain the integrity of your brow health. Refreshing your lamination is recommended after 8 weeks.
Daily maintenance is as simple as WET+SET.
WET: After the 48 hours, a little misting (or fresh from the shower) is required to get them in place. Especially if they’re a little wild from sleep.
SET: Simply brush your brows into place with a spoolie in your desired direction. The lamination has softened the hair to be pliable to be as fluffy or sleek as you want.
So if effortlessly fluffy brows is your jam, this is for you. And if you’re not sure, send us an email, slide into our DM’s on instagram or just book in a Brow Design.
