Smooth + Sleek Powder Brow Tutorial

While we are known for our signature fluffy brow, there is a place in our hearts for a manicured brow . Think a soft powdery aesthetic with polished lines. This technique has been my go to (especially when my lamination has worn off). While it has taken me a few years to master, I’ve invested my time so you don’t have to. Seriously, I’ve done the work for you and have had some really intense blocky brows (think 2010’s) that you can just avoid. Skip the trial and error and learn how to achieve that illusive powder brow in just a few simple steps for every day styling that is soft, smooth + sleek. Effortless beauty can be that easy.

Let’s break down the basic to the sleek powder brow before you get all of your product and jump into the tutorial. What will make this process the most fool proof is to have BALANCED brows (maybe it’s time to book that brow design so we can map them out to shape them properly). This takes out the guess work of where there is inconsistencies in your shape and you will have more awareness if that is the case. A tint also goes a long way, especially if you have light hair.

While simple, this is about precision in how we use the products to strategically highlight each element of your brows. Rather than a pencil or pomade, powder is the most forgiving and will be the easiest to achieve this look as it creates soft, blended and buildable layers. We will use a touch of our brow balm with the powder to oil the brush for the foundational work and highlighter to enhance the brow bone afterwards. Having the right brushes are the secret to success in this technique.

Follow along with the video using these easy steps to get this look . You can always save it for later on Instagram for when you need it on the go. Here are the steps for our go to Smooth + Sleek Powder Brow:

  1. Start by brushing your hair into place with a spoolie. Follow your natural hair flow. For a smooth effect, you want to ensure you are not going against it.

  2. Grab an angle brush and the brow balm. Ours is vegan oil based we use for conditioning the brows and available for purchase. Dip the brush in and remove excess product. A little goes a long way. This holds all of the bristles close together in the brush and has a subtle pomade texture when we apply the powder.

  3. We are creating the boundary lines. Lightly tap the brush into the powder and craft a smooth straight line along the bottom of your brow. Connect the dots with any areas that are less dense or patchy. Take this all the way to your tail. Any excess powder can be brushed into the hair where it is more dense. Little product is needed in those spots..

  4. For the top of the brow, we will create a parallel line from the front of your brow to your arch then run it down to your tail. Use more pressure on the tail for more density and a crisp shape. With medium pressure, bring the powder towards the front and blend it in. Powder is really buildable to blend a more dense area. Continue to lighten the pressure as you move towards the front. Blending is key and softly diffuse in the front for an even gradient

  5. This is our big secret to avoid that blocky front. Take a lip brush without any product and flick the lightly powdered fronts outward. I prefer to put my foundation on first and this helps the powder to melt into skin. Blend until fully diffused.

  6. Grab your highlighter with your flat brush and crafting a smooth line under the brow. This can correct any mistakes made with your powder. Buff the highlighter into the brow bone maintaining the smooth line under.

  7. Our last step is spritzing the soap with a facial mist for a light lather with your spoolie. Less is more here. Brush the product through your natural hair flow until the soap is invisible. This will hold the hair in place and enhances the texture of hair.
